Trades 08/Oct/2009

Watched market for an hour or so. Nothing set up that convinced me to trade, so called it a day and went to play some golf. Hope you had a good day.

I'm glad you asked this question.

I will answer it with a question initially: How will it help me specifically ?

Other parts to my answer, all in my opinion of course:

A person will not become a good trader by following other peoples signals. You have to have your own views and go thru your own methodology in order to become successful.

As far as I can gather tweeter is a online realtime type of chat system. So as well as scanning looking at market and stocks for setups I have to be typing stuff in twitter and other people will type in their views etc. I would lose my focus, too many distractions etc.

The fact that I have a couple of good days doesn't mean squat. The last few months when I have barely been breaking even, no seemed too bothered about twitter :)

By all means correct me if I am "wrong" in any of my assumptions above.

I agree with you TradedAm! To make a good trade, be an "isolationist", as successful traders do!

I tweet most of my trades and there are a lot of profitable people out there who tweet theirs. If I have time, I will tweet what I am looking at before entry but sometimes I only get to post a trade after it is closed.
I do not think it helps my trading, but it certainly does not hurt it. I do not believe somebody can be profitable by just shadowing somebody else. You have to figure out your own style. Why tweet ? For the same reasons people blog.

I have agonized giving my own opinions in tweets about setups I am finding in real time because what if the setup fails or goes south - if people pulled the trigger on what I said or did I would feel responsible for their loss and they would probably not view me too kindly - I think twitter is interesting if the participants aren't going to rely or let your comments influence their trading - is that possible? I don't think so.

twitter is for lonely traders :)

However, Twitter isn't like a chatroom and I can post when I want without a lot of people commenting back and forth.

Bottomline - you're not missing anything.

Today's world is full of distractions. As a general rule, successful people avoid distractions.
